Super Bowl not much to dine on

Every year the Super Bowl roles around and every year I have to work causing me to miss the spectacle.

This year however; I got my chance. The wings, nachos and dip were out and I was set for the game.

Sadly the experience left me with great disappointment.

In all fairness I am more a baseball fan then football but seriously the presentation just seemed weak.

The commercials were nothing to write home about and the game itself, although exciting was fraught with penalties, which seemed down right ridiculous to me.

First there are the non-football elements. Where was the entertainment and humor in the advertisements? There were at a max of three commercials, which actually gave me a spark of laughter. The others, if not boring, were dry and fell so short in quality that I find it difficult to even remember more than 20 percent of the ads.

And what was the deal with the half-time show? I appreciate the boss’ music just as much the next red-blooded American but it’s the Super Bowl. The midway act should be huge and relevant in today’s musical society. There are so many acts, which could have been in old Bruce’s place. He didn’t even play “Born in the USA,” how stupid is that?

Lastly there was the game itself.

All in all the match was insanely entertaining. The only thing, which kept it from being great, was the horrible officiating. With the exceptions of a few holding calls and two unnecessary roughness penalties every other referee induced break was un-needed. There was actually a call for roughing the passer after a lineman hit the quarterback a quarter second after releasing the ball.

When all is said and done the game was all right, but in retrospect it was no different then an average day-to-day football game.
