Road lined with changes

The boys from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are back with their sophomore major label album and although it’s been two years, it was well worth the wait.

The fiery foursome has come back and delivered an album that should not be over looked. Tuesday marked the release of this album.

Lonely Road is by far one of the most diversely energetic albums in a good while. Sometimes it seems that the music world gets lost in the same three-chord melodies and bland lyrics, but this album is a good change.

It opens up nicely with, “You Better Pray.” This radio-friendly single does a wonderful job of exhibiting the vocal talents and range of front man, Ronnie Winter.

There is already a music video out for this track and it is just as entertaining to watch, as the song is to listen.

The next song that jumped out of the speakers “Pen & Paper,” it comes third on the track list. This song is a bit more melodic then most of what Jumpsuit has put out in the past, but it is anything but a ballad.

Winter delivers the lyrics, “You like the way the people stare at you. Now you look so fake, just thought that you should know. You’re all the same and when the curtain drops down, you’ll be replaced by something typical.”

On Don’t You Fake It, the ballad that had everyone singing along was ” Guardian Angel.” This time it could be “Believe,” which falls in at number seven on the track list. This song takes a hopeful look at the state of the world.

“I still believe that there is more love than hate, there’s more heart than ache. We are stuck in the great big world together.”

Winter belts out the words as if they were going to be his last. He has gotten remarks that he has a bit of an “emo-whine,” but it’s more of a great singer getting the point across in a higher register.

The title track is another switch up from the rest of the CD with a primarily acoustic feel, which should serve to warm the soul of the listener.

Directly after “Lonely Road,” they switch up the mood again with a classic-Jumpsuit sounding tune, “Senioritis.” The fast paced guitar riffs and blast drumbeats come forth in this, the tenth track.

The biggest switch up comes with “Godspeed,” and what a switch up it is. This track is nothing like what anyone has heard from Jumpsuit before.

It starts with a whistle, gunshots and other various sounds from a battlefield complete with bombs.

This song has a bit of a Pretty. Odd. Panic at the Disco sound, but still holds true with Jumpsuit style with a memorable chorus that has Winter using that oh-so-unique voice to exclaim the words.

Overall, Lonely Road is one of those albums that should skyrocket the future of the band. It sets them apart as one of the most musically diverse bands, while still keeping true to the Jumpsuit sound.
