Pageant rescheduled, not hindered

The “Miss Hunt County” and “Teen Miss Hunt County” pageant has been rescheduled for Nov. 22.

The event will take place at the Memorial Student Center of Texas A&M University-Commerce in the American Ballroom, at 7 p.m.

The event, originally scheduled for September, was rescheduled due to a lack of contestant entries.

“The reason for the pageant having a low turnout of contestants was that it was scheduled too early in the pageant season. A lot of the contestants like to have the down time between the state pageant, in July, and the local pageants which restart in the fall.” Warren Morrison, pageant coordinator, said.

Morrison said that the pageant will be the exactly the same as planned, but it will be at a more convenient time in the season. The theme of the pageant will be “Our Song” since both of the previous year’s title holders are singers. Last year’s Miss Hunt County, Faith Bates, will be choreographing the opening fitness routine, set to a country-western theme.

According to Morrison, pageant contestants can expect to compete in several categories including physical fitness, talent, evening wear, and a personal interview with the judges. Winners will go on to compete at the state competition, in July 2009.

Morrison said that pageant consultants begin work immediately with the winner following the local pageant to prepare for the state competition.

Contestants must be Texas residents but can be from any part of the state, and can have never been pregnant nor married. There is no GPA requirement for the pageant, but winners are accepted to maintain a better than average GPA after winning.Morrison says that anyone should feel free to enter the pageant, because the judges are always looking for the next fresh face. “I would love to take a first time girl to state pageant,” says Morrison.

The Miss Hunt County Pageant is a scholarship pageant, and the winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship. The first runner-up receives $2,500, and the second runner-up receives $1,250.Prizes for Miss Teen Hunt County consist of cash prizes and savings bonds. One crown will be provided by Pi of Texas. All interested contestants should contact Warren Morrison by email, misscomm@hotmail.com.
