Sevendust back with new masterpiece

 Artist: Sevendust

Album: Alpha

Genre: Metal

Label: Asylum Records

Sevendust is back and those hard rocking metal boys have gone and created a masterpiece of an album once again.

Before beginning, I will issue a warning to those of you thinking about listening to “Alpha”, please do not partake if you are not ready to eat meat. In the metal world, there are bands that, if they were food, would be strained peas or mashed potatoes. Those are the bands that can be listened to and audibly devoured with little effort.

Sevendust is definitely NOT one on that list.  No, “Alpha” is steak; the lyrics and instrumentals will leave you chewing on the thick flavorful music for days.

Without warning, “Alpha” opens up with “Deathstar” slamming into your speakers like a hurricane of hard rock energy. Lyrics like “Walkin’ tall you stand up all alone, with hand and fist I stand up on my own, the only thing your gonna do is fall, so watch your sh!t, you think you own it all,” will blow your mind.

Beginning the CD, they let you know quickly that Sevendust is pulling no punches and intends on rocking your stereo until track twelve is through playing.

With LaJon Witherspoon spouting out heartfelt singing behind the microphone, there’s no question that you will be singing along with this hard rocking front man.

Screaming at you from the speakers, you feel every ounce of pain and anger that is written into the songs of “Alpha”

Sounding like a pounding herd of wild horses as he plays the drums, Morgan Rose plays the bass drums as if he were Zeus beating the clouds to send down the sound of thunder. Morgan can also be heard as he belts out guttural screams to back up and reinforce Witherspoon.

Putting the furious stringed-sounds together are John Connelly and Sonny Mayo.  These two rock and rollers make “Alpha” come to life with the speaker busting bridges and riffs that will leave your mouth open wide and hoping that soon the breath they took away, would soon return.

Producing the beating heart for “Alpha” is bassist, Vinnie Hornsby. The bass playing coming from this CD will have you wanting to forever replace “Brown” with “Hornsby” on being one of the top bass players you’ve heard.

Sevendust has truly returned back to their roots with “Alpha” offering you a punch-you-in-the-face album to head bang to in the car to on your way to school, or start your own personal mosh-pit to in your bedroom.

Like I said, do not attempt to listen to “Alpha” if you are not ready to indulge yourself in such hard rocking, ear satisfying music.
