A Texas A&M University-Commerce student died late Thursday, March 29 in a car accident outside of Greenville.
Dayton Kruse, 27, of Grapevine and another passenger were involved in a collision with an 18-wheeler on Highway 69 and FM 1569, the Greenville Police Department said.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Monday at Lewisville Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Kruse was a senior at A&M Commerce, studying photography. He graduated from Grapevine High School in 1997, where he played the euphonium and trumpet in the band. He had been an active Boy Scout and worked at the Morris Recreation Center.
“Dayton was truly a light in the lives of many people and he will be sorely missed,” said library assistant, Brenda Feher-Simonelli, who was a friend of Kruse.
According to loved ones, he enjoyed music, to read and research, and the outdoors, especially camping and rock climbing.
“I don’t think there was ever a time I knew Dayton where he seemed like he was down,” said junior photography major and housemate of Kruse, Evan Wallis. “He had a great attitude on towards that couldn’t help but rub off on people around him. His enthusiasm and interest in the things he enjoyed doing is something I’ll miss greatly.”
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers and books to the Grapevine Public Library.
