The Student Government Association is currently holding a referendum over changes to their constitution that would affect presidential duties and upcoming elections. It runs from now until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29.
The current SGA constitution states elections will be held on the “third Wednesday and Thursday of March. This year, the third Thursday in March is during spring break. The change would add “or fourth” to the amendment, making it possible for elections to take place on the planned dates of March 21 and 22.
Another change on the referendum will eliminate the Chancellors Student Advisory Board (CSAB) from a list of required committees the SGA President must attend. This would leave the amendment stating the President must attend the President’s Advisory Council, Leadership Luncheons, and “all other committees to which they are appointed to.”
A third amendment change would fix grammatical errors or confusion when referring to the appointment of election boards. These boards consist of three to five members that must be approved by a two-thirds vote in the Senate. These members will then supervise campaigns and elections for SGA as well as any referenda presented to students.
The results of the referendum will be posted at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 1.
