Volleyball falls to LSC foes

The Texas A&M-Commerce volleyball team dropped a 30-23, 30-18, 30-14 decision to host Texas A&M-Kingsville in Lone Star Conference action on Saturday.

Senior Colleen Favaro was one of three players with 12 kills to lead an A&M-C (5-11, 1-4 LSC) attack. The Javelinas (8-7, 3-3 LSC) were led by Sha Tramble and Adina Gray, who shared in team-high honors with 12 kills apiece.

In the win, Texas A&M-Kingsville out hit A&M-C .376 to .134. In addition, they hit .486 in a game two win and .441 in game three.

Texas A&M University-Commerce senior Colleen Favaro had a match-high 20 kills in a 25-30, 21-30, 30-28, 22-30 loss to host Tarleton State in a Lone Star Conference match on Thursday night.

The Lions (5-10, 1-3 LSC) saw its two-game winning streak snapped in the defeat. Senior Wannie Neal joined Favaro in double figures in kills with 11 to lead an A&M-C attack that hit .098 in the loss.

The TexAnns (8-10, 2-3 LSC) had four players record double-digit kills efforts, including a double-double performance from Missy Castro, who had 14 kills and 15 digs and Alisha Bourgo, who had 11 kills and 12 digs in the win. Setters Susan Domine and Prayr Giebler each had 30 and 25 assists, respectively. Castro also had four service aces to go along with eight blocks for Tarleton State in the win.

An 8-3 run midway through the first game led Tarleton to the opening game victory. The Lions would cut the lead to four on five separate occasions only to come up short as Tarleton State out hit the Lions, .275 to .068.

After the two teams were tied at six to start game two, TSU took a lead that they would not relinquish. In the second game win, Tarleton State out hit the Lions .412 to .220.

In the third game, A&M-C raced out to a 10-5 lead on the strength of a pair of kills by Neal and a service ace by Favaro and Lauren Flynn. Both Neal and Favaro would finish the game with four kills and junior setter Brittany Williams would contribute a game-high 10 assists and five digs.

In the decisive game four, Tarleton State clinched the match as they out hit the Lions .295 to -.021. Shay Gracy and Missy Castro paced the attack for the TexAnns with four kills apiece.

The Lions will look to return to their winning ways in a Tuesday non-conference match against Paul Quinn at the A&M-Commerce Field House at 7 pm.
