College candidates in for mayor as filing period ends

The filing period for Commerce City Council elections has ended, and a few names on the ballot have direct connections to A&M-Commerce.

The race for mayor will be contested by student Coby Marcum and senior lecturer in the mass media, communication and theatre department John Ballotti. Both have experience in governmental organizations at the university, with Marcum serving as a senator in the Student Government Association and Ballotti with Faculty Senate.

Steve Harrison and Emma Martin will campaign for place two on the council, while incumbent Sue Davis will run for place four unopposed.

Elections take place May 12, and early voting will run from April 30 to May 8.
