The application for graduation deadline is Friday, Sept. 28. Students planning on graduating this fall must follow several steps to ensure they can participate in commencement on Dec. 15.
Fall 2007 graduates must adhere to the deadlines in order to graduate.
“Students must apply for graduation in order for their degree to be conferred by the University,” Paige Bussell, university registrar, said.
According to the registrar’s office Web site, students must complete a six-step procedure in order to graduate.
1. Students must meet with their adviser to ensure that all degree requirements have been met.
2. The Graduating Senior Survey must be filled out online regarding each student’s experience at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
3. Students must apply online through MyLeo for graduation. The $20 application fee is then charged to LeoPay.
4. Loans, holds, graduation and other miscellaneous information must be reviewed and checked.
5. Students must review information over commencement that entails regalia and the ceremony.
6. The Permanent Alumni Record Information must be filled out for Alumni Relations.
Bussell emphasized the importance of students to meet with their advisers first so that they are sure they have met all requirements.
“Students meet with and are cleared by their advisors-they apply with us to ensure degree conferment,” Bussell said.
The Graduating Senior Survey, an important tool for the institutional effectiveness and institutional research, is a letter for seniors, instructing them on the survey.
“Your opinions can provide the insights needed to assess the effectiveness of existing programs and provide valuable information to help target areas for improvement. This survey asks about your perceptions of many different areas of your educational experience at A&M-Commerce,” Keith McFarland, president of the University said.
According to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research, 25 percent of graduates earned a degree in elementary education during the fall of 2006. The second highest degree awarded was social work with nine percent and business administration with eight percent.
Answers from the Graduating Senior Survey and other facts can be found online at the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research’s Web site.
