Family Day provides entertainment for A&M-C students

On Saturday, Sept. 29, Breakout Entertainment, along with the president’s office will be sponsoring a day of activities and leisure for the students of Texas A&M University-Commerce and their families.

Events will begin at 10:45 a.m. and end with the Lions football game versus the University of Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m.

In order to accommodate parents with younger children, the North Texas Children’s Museum will be providing free childcare until 4 p.m.

“Back by popular request, the president’s office will be sponsoring a Family Day luncheon, and each dean of every college will have a reception in each of its perspective areas. New activities include Stuff-a-lion, which allows the children to stuff a lion and take home some lion pride,” Connie Mears, assistant director of student activities and leadership said.

The Family Coat of Arms, an activity that’s being carried over from last Fall’s Family Day, will allow each family to put their last name through a program that will bring up a detailed report, depending on the last name.

Sponsored by Breakout Entertainment and the Campus Activities Office, it will begin at 11 a.m. on the second floor of the Memorial Student Center.

Other activities include the Morris Recreation Center open house, which runs from noon to 5 p.m. Attendees can participate in exercise activities, swim, play basketball and rock climb. In order to swim, children must be at least 3 years old.

The tailgate party prior to the Lions football game will begin at 5 p.m. at Memorial Stadium and continue until the game’s start.

“Family Day will give parents an opportunity to come to campus and see a student’s daily involvement on campus, and to be exposed to the entertainment and resources available to students,” Sara Hillis, director of new media and programs said.

Hillis encourages all families to register in advance if possible, but it is not required in order to attend.

Anyone wanting to register should call 903-886-5816, or visit the University Web site at www.tamu-commerce.edu.
