All the beds in the residence hall on the corner of Highway 2450 and Culver may be full, but there is one thing missing from the brand new building: a name.
“Currently the hall has no name, but we hope to have one soon,” Director of Residential Living and Learning Dennis Koch said. “There will be a grand opening for the new building on the afternoon of Oct. 21.”
Construction on the residence hall began during last year’s Christmas break and continued through the summer. Open mainly to freshmen students, the hall has more than 250 beds.
The hall will need a name soon, however, since a “new-new” residence hall is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2013. At 500 hundred beds, it will be approximately twice the size of the recently finished residence hall. Both halls are part of the university’s goal to increase the amount of students living on campus and their overall educational experience, as outlined by A&M-Commerce President Dr. Dan Jones last year.
