After experiencing severe flood damage due to heavy rains, McDonald’s, located at 2102 Live Oak, was forced to temporarily close its doors for a total renovation.
“It had been nearly 20 years since the last remodel,” Tara Hale, assistant manager, said. “It was needed very much, and I think that it’s a very good improvement.”
The remodel began in early June and lasted until Aug. 14. The entire restaurant underwent a total overhaul.
“At first, the walls inside were completely torn down,” Hale said. “All that were left were the metal studs.”
The project was completed after a nearly three-month restoration.
Inside, large, framed black-and-white photos were arranged on a deep orange canvas background along the back walls. Silver metal chairs – free standing and swivel – were placed beside cream-colored table tops, some equipped with new computer games for kids and adults.
“Some of the computers we have contain learning games and some are mind games that you really have to think about,” Hale said. “There’s Uno, chess and pool, among others. Lots of the customers like them because it gives their kids something to do since we don’t have a playground.”
On the ceiling, spotlights were installed to illuminate the restaurant, and customers could now use a self-serve soda station to make their own drinks. Everything – from the grey highchairs to the grey-and-white tile on the floor – was new and spotless.
Outside, the building was surrounded in dark red brick with bright yellow-and-orange-striped awnings to provide shading over the walkways.
“We now have new grass and all new equipment,” Hale said.
The luscious green lawns lined with various shades of flowers have attracted the attention of drivers and regular patrons alike.
“I haven’t been inside yet,” Renee Tolly, senior, said. “But the outside looks so much more improved. It has definitely given Live Oak a better appearance.”
