Local runner finishes third of meet

The Texas A&M University-Commerce cross country team began their 2007 campaign on Saturday, when they ran in the UCO Land Run, which was hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma and took place in Edmond, Okla.

In his first meet for the Lions Tyler Tyndell, the Paris, Texas native finished 3rd place overall, with a time of 21:34.93. Delafuente attained his 5th place finish, with a time 21:54.10.

Also finishing in the top-10 for the Lion men, were Gerardo Delafuente (5th place in 21:54.10), Alfredo Soto (7th place in 21:54.62), and Robert Reed (9th place in 22:29.57).

Rounding out the runners for the men was Brandon Womack who finished 12th place (22:51.82). Kasie Carrell finished 17th place, finishing in 23:46.05 and Logan Kelly finished in 20th place with a time of 24:14.27.

For the women’s team, Esther Fernandez, Janna Lane, Leslea Traylor and Amanda Martin represented the Lions.

Fernandez finished the 5 kilometer race in 24:07.43, to finish in 20th place overall. Lane ran the 5k in 24:29.76, for a 24th place finish. Traylor finished 29th place, with a time of 25:40.03, followed by Martin’s 30th place finish in 26:11.39.

Lawrence was impressed with the runners and how they ran in the meet. “I thought in all respects we ran very, very competitively. The men ran competitively against other teams, and within the team. The women ran competitively and within their constraints.”

The Lions are off for a few weeks, until they run on Sept. 22, at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station.
