Program introduces organizations

The Office of Diversity and Cultural Affairs will be sponsoring V.I.S.I.O.N.S. on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Auditorium.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

“V.I.S.I.O.N.S. is designed to give students new to Texas A&M University-Commerce an opportunity to be introduced to the numerous organizations on campus and find out how to become a part of them,” Robert Dotson, director of The Office of Diversity and Cultural Affairs, said.

V.I.S.I.O.N.S., an acronym that stands for Various Illustrations Sharing and Informing about Organizations to New Students, is held once a semester, generally during the second week of the term, and new students aren’t the only ones that look forward to the program.

“V.I.S.I.O.N.S. showcases all organizations; not the just the Greeks, and it gets everyone excited about the semester,” undergraduate Brianna Brown said.

Dotson encourages students to realize that V.I.S.I.O.N.S. isn’t just a “Greek affair.”

“It’s important that the campus recognizes the other organizations that are here on campus and contributions that they make in the campus and community. I think all of the organizations can and often do help students find a niche, it’s just important for them to figure out where that niche lies and seize the opportunity,” Dotson said.

“Additionally, I think V.I.S.I.O.N.S. is an opportunity for all students that attend the university to interact with the ‘faculty, staff and students that might participate in the program and it gives all participants a chance to be in a part of an out-of-classroom, yet academic program.”

The Ferguson Auditorium is located on the second floor of the Ferguson Social Sciences building.
