Liberal studies student passes

Roddy Cal Dudley, 25, a liberal studies major from Paris, died Thursday, Sept. 6.

Funeral services were set Sept. 15, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Paris, with the Rev. Paul D. Franklin officiating. Burial followed in Rest Lawn Gardens Cemetery.

“We were extremely saddened by the death of Roddy Dudley. Any time the university community loses one of its students, it is quite depressing because we feel the loss of a person who had great potential to change the world,” said Dr. Keith McFarland, A&M-Commerce president. “Roddy represented such potential, and we truly regret his passing.”

Dudley was born May 20, 1982, at McCuistion Hospital in Paris. He graduated high school in 2000 from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin. Prior to attending A&M-Commerce, he received scholarships for tennis and academics at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Dudley enjoyed playing tennis and traveled all over Texas participating in tournaments, qualifying for three nationals. He briefly played professionally in 2005.

The university flag was at half-staff Sept. 12, in memory of Dudley.
