Country stars Eli Young Band will be headlining the second annual Block Party on Friday.
The Club is hosting the 2nd Annual Block Party at Texas A&M University-Commerce at the Sam Rayburn Student Center from 5-11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.
Event Coordinator for The Club Rick Walker said this event is special because it is unlike any other on campus.
"The main purpose of this event is to give the students something different from what they're used to," Walker said. "We bring in artists that have bigger names, a way to give the students a big welcome. We're definitely hoping to make this an annual event."
Musical artists include student bands Des Point and Ball N Chain, as well as Matt Corey, The Heyday, Pleasure P and event headliner Eli Young Band. The Club will be providing hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, Pepsi products and bottled water. Vegetarian options will also be available. In addition to the live music, there will be a roaming magician, henna tattoo artist and inflatables.
The Block Party is the official culmination of the 3-week-long Lions Roar event, which included several events on and off campus. Walker says he is anticipating a much larger crowd than last year.
"We had our first Block Party last year and had around 1,200 people attend," he said. "We are expecting to see between 2,200-2,400 come out this time."
Prize giveaways include Block Party key chains and t-shirts, and the first 100 guests will receive free stadium chairs. Admission is free to students with an ID card. All others can purchase tickets for $10.
