A mobile home fire yesterday evening at the USA Mobile Home Park claimed the life of a four-year-old girl.

Annette Reyes of Commerce was found by Commerce Fire Department personnel in the back bedroom of the mobile home, according to a City of Commerce press release. The child was removed from the home and transported by EMS personnel to Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville where she was later pronounced dead. Medical examiners have determined her death was caused by smoke inhalation and severe burns.

The exact cause of the fire is still unknown, although investigators have ruled out arson and are leaning toward the conclusion it was accidental, according to the City of Commerce. It is also not known whether the child's mother and brother were in the home at the time of the fire.

The fire began in the middle bedroom of the mobile home. CFD was dispatched to the scene at 6:11 p.m. yesterday and were advised someone was possibly trapped inside. The structure was 50 per cent engulfed when CFD personnel arrived.
