Womack shines again in rain-shortened weekend meet

Men's track

The A&M-Commerce men's track team participated in the Michael Johnson Classic, hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas, on Saturday. The meet was postponed numerous times throughout the day before it was canceled due to inclement weather.

For the second week in a row, junior Brandon Womack smashed a personal record – this time in the 1,500-meter run. Womack finished second in the collegiate/small university division of the event with a time of 3:57.28, improving his previous personal best by three seconds.
Sophomore Demetrius Holmes placed 12th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.85. Holmes was the third overall NCAA Division II competitor in the event. In the 400-meter hurdles, Holmes finished 18th (fifth among Division II competitors) in a time of 57.41.

In the 800-meter run, senior Gerardo DelaFuente set a new personal best with a time of 2:02.01, placing him 33rd in the 49-person field. The time placed him ninth among Division II competitors. Additionally, senior Anthony Valle set a season-best time of 22.93 in the 200-meter dash, placing 38th in the 62-person field.

The Lions will compete in the Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, Ark., April 30.

Women's Track

The A&M-Commerce women's track team participated in the Michael Johnson Classic, hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas, on Saturday. The meet was postponed numerous times throughout the day before it was canceled due to inclement weather.

The women's team was led by strong performances from the 100-meter dash duo of Charnita Hollands and Jakesia King, who finished 29th and 31st with times of 12.70 and 12.71, respectively.

In the 400-meter dash, junior Makesha Brewer finished 30th in the 41-person field with a time of 60.40. The time placed her eighth among Division II competitors.

The Lions will compete in the Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, Arkansas, April 30.

Women's Golf

The A&M-Commerce women's golf team finished 16th on Tuesday at the Tarleton State Coca-Cola Classic in Granbury, Texas.

A&M-Commerce finished the tournament with a two-day total of 656, two strokes out of 15th and nine shy of 14th. Host Tarleton State extended its one-stroke lead from Monday to 10 strokes in Tuesday's final round for tournament title honors.

Lions' senior Heather Pantalion and junior Kathleen May tied for 45th after shooting a 162. Pantalion posted an 82 in Tuesday's final round, and May shot an 86. Sophomore Malonie Oats and junior Megan Benites shared 62nd-place honors after posting a 166, and junior Mallory Kempf shot a 93.

A three-person playoff settled the individual winner with Grand Canyon University's Georgiana Dunn edging out West Texas A&M's Hammerli Sriyai and Tarleton State's Carla Cooper with a 3-over 147.
