Country music group releases debut album

Rockin' rhythms, sweet melodies and edgy lyrics make up the catchy sound of the new country music group, Pistol Annies.  These ladies are loaded with fiery attitude and unique talent, which blend to create a grade A album.  Country artist Miranda Lambert stars in the group alongside friends and fellow artists Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley.

The Annies' debut album titled Hell on Heels can be purchased now on iTunes or it can be ordered through the Pistol Annies official music store on their website.  Both links can be found at the bottom of the home page.  The first single and title track, "Hell on Heels," is a slow rhythm song about a woman you do not want to cross.

The group debuted the song on the country music show "Girls Night Out" when Miranda Lambert was asked to perform.  She announced she had a "surprise" for everyone and called her "project" out to the stage. Between the grinning faces and the standing ovation it was clear, the crowd loved them.

The Pistol Annies is composed of three individual singer/songwriters who had been friends for some time when Lambert decided to initiate the construction of the group. It seems to be some sort of symbol of female empowerment as the women compose many songs about a woman's anger or outlook toward men.  But, let it be known, that these feisty females make their statements in a much more rugged, in your face way than, say, The Spice Girls.

The band's sound will be familiar to fans of Miranda Lambert as she typically records songs of the same sort.  However, I found it interesting that Lambert blends so well with the others instead of having the spotlight focused more on her.  When you have a ‘superstar' who decides to put together a music group after his/her career has already launched, that artist typically tends to be more of a front-runner in the group because he/she is already so well known, but that is part of what makes this band so exceptional.  In viewing their live performance videos, I have found the three always stand or sit in the same order when on stage, with Presley in the middle instead of Lambert.  The ladies split harmonies and solos equally and truly represent a music "group."

Upon listening to the album, audiences will hear one song that is set aside from the rest, ‘Beige.'  The song is very delicate and sweet as it tells the story of a young girl who wore beige at her shotgun wedding. The tune almost has a haunting or sad mood to it, but Monroe's beautifully smooth voice brings a bit of sunshine to the song when she takes lead vocals.

Between the bold notes and meaningful lyrics these three ladies croon, this album is an absolute hit in the country music scene.  To hear the Annies for yourself, sport some merchandise or learn more about the ladies, visit the aforementioned website or check out their Facebook page.
