Lost begins final season
One of the most critically acclaimed shows of the last decade, "Lost" is now entering its sixth and final season. Fortunately for fans, it has the decency to give its longtime viewers the gratification they've been seeking for so long and then some as the series comes to a close.
The season five finale saw the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 detonating a hydrogen bomb at one of the Island's key Dharma Initiative stations after somehow time traveling to the year 1977. The survivors, led by Jack Shepard (played by Matthew Fox), believe destroying the station they will retroactively erase Flight 815's crash on the way to Los Angeles and thus their lives will be restored to normal.
Picking up immediately after the explosion, the survivors are instead moved back into the present day. Injured and confused, they receive a message from Hurley (Jorge Garcia) warning them to get to a temple on the island to take refuge from the enigmatic Man in Black, who is hiding in the form of their deceased friend Locke (Terry O'Quinn).
The performances of "Lost" have been frequently praised for feeling very human and this season is no exception. The cast delivers the top-notch dialogue with full believability, without a single weak link to be found.
Most fans have been watching from the start however, will notice that rather than repeatedly bringing up more questions throughout the episode, this premiere was composed mostly of answering questions. Big revelations like who is Jacob, what is the Smoke Monster and how the hydrogen bomb affected the timeline are all introduced and waiting for the future episodes to bring them full circle.
Viewers rejoice, it would appear that J.J. Abrams' promise of delivering closure in the final season will be kept.
After five years of the most bizarre twists and turns a plotline can take, "Lost" seems to be handling itself pretty well. The big reveals don't feel rushed and I'm genuinely curious to see how the rest of the season plays out.
