TOMS bring "Style Your Sole" event to Club
The campus representatives for TOMS shoes at Texas A&M University-Commerce will be trying again to get students involved in TOMS' "One for One" movement. "One for One" is the main goal of TOMS shoes and means for every pair of shoes they sell, TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need.
This next event, which will be held in the Club on Thursday Nov. 19, will be a bit different than the event that was held last month.
"Although the first event was great, its intention was to inform," sophomore art major and TOMS campus representative Lindsey Durham said. "I hope that this second [event] will be a little less formal, having some definite interaction from our supporters."
The last event consisted primarily of Durham and the other TOMS campus representative, junior sociology major Kerry Hendricks, introducing themselves, showing the TOMS mission statement video and then asking for contact information and orders. This next event is going to be a little more hands-on.
"This second event will be the 'Style Your Sole' event for the first time at A&M - Commerce along with a live musical performance by my friend and musician, Jake Germany," Hendricks said. "In the event, people will be able to listen to live music, pick up their shoe orders and also have the option of designing and styling their own pair of shoes."
During the ordering process, Durham and Hendricks encouraged many students to purchase the white or natural canvas shoes in anticipation of the "Style Your Sole" event. The pair will be providing paint supplies for students to use if they decide to paint their shoes at the event.
Hendricks said students are not required to paint their new TOMS, which means that some students, like junior biology major Clay Friddle, chose to just order a pair of shoes other than those recommended by Hendricks and Durham.
"I'm looking forward to getting my shoes," Friddle said. "Although I will not be painting them, I think it will still be a good time."
The "Style Your Sole" event will be held in the Club of the SRSC on Thursday at 7 p.m. For more information, students can send an email to commercetoms@gmail.com or visit the "TOMS Shoes for Commerce" page on Facebook.
