Girl meets boy, girl eats boy
Jennifer's Body tantalizing to the senses
Jennifer's Body is smoking hot.
With that out of the way, I can actually get started.
Diablo Cody, who is best known for her Academy Award winning script of 2007 film Juno, conceived the idea for the film and also penned its screenplay while Karyn Kusama directed.
Cody's brainchild, Jennifer's Body, is part dark comedy, but mostly horror with plenty of blood and scary shadow depictions of Megan Fox eating boys' insides.
In a nutshell, it felt like the film's goal to achieve was to consummate audiences' fantasies of watching a hot girl partake in carnal acts with someone whilst unhinging her jaw and consuming their bodies.
However the films' plot still works, in my opinion, with convenient, witty repartee between the characters and a killer soundtrack.
This film revolves mainly around two high school girls living in the fictional small town of Devil's Kettle. One is the gorgeously popular, cheerleader Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) and the other is the bespectacled, quiet bookworm Anita "Needy" Lesnicky (Amanda Seyfried).
They are both excellently believable in their stereotypical roles, but what is not so stereotypical is they are best friends. They are such incredibly close friends; they have matching 'BFF' necklaces and many students see them as "lesbigay".
One evening Jennifer coerces Needy into accompanying her to a pathetic bar to watch her new favorite band, Low Shoulder, perform with its' salty lead singer. The word 'salty' in this instance is recast as a synonym for sexy or beautiful and this isn't the last time Cody will use words in new ways, or just make terms up, to fit her purposes.
The devilish, selfish singer (Adam Brody) takes an interest in Jennifer after the bar burns down in a freak fire. He takes her away in his band's van along with the rest of his fame-hungry band.
Jennifer becomes the unfortunate victim of a botched satanic ritual. In order to become famous the band attempts to sacrifice Jennifer who they thought was a virgin, and since she is not, Jennifer is now inhabited by a demon.
Much to Needy's dismay, her best friend now must feed off blood to stay strong, alive and retain her beautiful physique.
As a kind of revenge, Jennifer only feeds off of boys. In order to prevent her own boyfriend Chip (Johnny Simmons) from falling into the hands of her demon friend, Needy must find a way to stop her.
From the start of the movie until the end, the music of the film is rather light and perfect for its younger target audience, which isn't very young considering its R rating.
Recognizable bands such as Cobra Starship and Panic at the Disco feature songs in this film along with a single written especially for the film by Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore.
A surprisingly good tune actually comes from the film's fictional band, Low Shoulder, with "Through the Trees".
The movie met and exceeded my expectations in terms of what happened, why it happened and all the filler in between the two.
The dialogue was slightly less exciting then expected when compared to the hilarious deadpan exchange of words from Cody's Juno, but interestingly attention-catching nonetheless.
I would recommend this movie based on the fact Megan Fox is a fox, there's a dicey exchange of kisses between two characters of the female persuasion, and the blood and gore is nicely balanced with an above-average plot, enticing audiences to keep on watching.
