Students 'get lucky' at Lions Roar event
A&M-Commerce is starting the Fall 2011 semester with many Lions Roar events all across campus. Today, Campus Activities Board hosted the "I Got Lucky" event, which gave students a chance to get their own stuffed lion and take a photo with the university mascot, Lucky the Lion.
"I think it's going well," Assistant Director of Student Activities and Special Events Deepti Vanguri said. "We've had this event in previous years, so it's good to keep it going. It's something that the students can look forward to each year."
Lion's Roar will be hosting a number of events across campus throughout the next two weeks, giving A&M-Commerce students opportunities to get out and interact with their fellow students.
"This has been a really busy event so far," welcome desk attendant Brandi Kennard said. "I really like my lion, and he's really cool. A lot of people are getting lions and some people are mad because they didn't get here in time to get one."
Inside the student center, lines for lions and photos with Lucky stretched down the halls with students waiting to get their own stuffed Lucky and take a photo with the school's mascot.
"I didn't take a picture with the mascot," freshman Karla Parra said. "I really do like my lion though. It's like a Build-a-Bear, but its fluffier and more awesome."
Parra and her friend, freshman Kate Cotsakis just happened to be at the right place at the right time on their way to the cafeteria, when they saw the line at a short length and were able to get their lions.
