The Gamma Zeta Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta and the Morris Recreation Center Fitness and Wellness are hosting the Duck Run and Crescent Classic Saturday, May 1 at 8 a.m.

The event is a 5K walk and run that starts and ends at the Morris Recreation Center and goes into downtown Commerce. Proceeds from the event benefit Camp Fire USA.

"Our philanthropy always goes to Camp Fire USA, one of the nation's leading not-for-profit youth development organizations," Gamma Phi Beta member Katrina Del Prado said. "Camp Fire USA provides all-inclusive, coeducational programs in hundreds of communities across the United States. Serving youth from birth to 21, Camp Fire USA helps boys and girls learn and play side by side in comfortable, informal settings."

Gamma Phi Beta plans to hold this event annually.

"Right now, we are looking to make this an annual event," Gamma Phi Beta member Maricel Amashta said. "The people at Camp Fire USA are very excited and they believe this will bring a lot of money. If all goes well, then yes, it will be something we continue."

Over 100 people from the university and community are expected to participate. Registration is open to any person wanting to participate.

"It provides an opportunity for the community, alumni and students to enjoy a healthy activity while giving to a worthwhile charity," representative for Fitness and Wellness Lauren Rhodes said.

Pre-registration is open from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Morris Recreation Center. The fee for pre-registration is $10 per person.
Race day registration is open from 6:45 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. The registration fee is $15 per person.

Registration fees include participation in the race and an event shirt. Discounts are available for groups participating with more than 4 people.

"We really hope that this event is a great success," Amashta said. "We are hoping for it to become a big event on campus and something enjoyed by the community."
