Women's soccer resumes LSC play on the road
Volleyball team hits the road; golf resumes after month-long hiatus
Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team is on the back end of their long road trip as they return to Lone Star Conference play tonight against second place West Texas A&M.
They take on the defending conference champions following a 1-0 defeat to sixth ranked Rollins in Florida. In action was junior goalkeeper Randi Hafele, who kept the Lions in the contest with five saves.
Leading the Lions' scoring charts is senior Chelsey Haight, who has three goals on the season. Junior Devon Herrman has contributed three assists, and freshmen Tareyn Blanton, Elle DeFreitas, and Taylor Hunt all have one goal each.
The ladies have one more road match after this, as they travel to Eastern New Mexico on Sunday. They then return home on Friday, Oct. 8, to take on Angelo State at 7 p.m.
Volleyball
The A&M-Commerce women's volleyball team is on a three game road trip starting with Lone Star Conference newcomers Incarnate Word tonight at 7 p.m.
The Lions are currently on a six match losing streak. Although tonight's contest was scheduled out of conference, Case said it will be a nice opportunity to scout their opponents, who they play again on Nov. 6, and see how they match up.
Leading the team into the Incarnate Word match is sophomore Rachel Robertson, who is averaging 2.42 kills per set and tops the Lions' blocking charts with 34 this season. Freshman Jordan Neal leads the team in assists with 8 per set, and fellow freshman Kayla Bond is right up there with Robertson, averaging 2.38 kills per set. Another freshman, libero Dakota Crockett, leads the team in digs with 3.21 per set.
After this match, A&M-Commerce plays two more non-conference games. Tomorrow they take on Texas A&M-International before ending the road trip at Ouachita Baptist on Oct. 5.
Golf
The men's and women's golf teams are back in action Oct. 3-5 for the first time since their fall season opening tournaments last month.
Senior Dustin Gideon and the fairly young men's team will go to Kingston, Okla., for the Southeastern Oklahoma State Choctaw Nation Championship. Gideon shot a 77 and 75 last time out in the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate, but it was freshman Chris Leasor who drew the plaudits for scoring 74 in both rounds and leading the team to a 17th place finish.
The women's golf team will also be traveling to Oklahoma, as they compete at the Central Oklahoma Broncho Classic in Edmond. Back in September, the ladies had two separate teams compete in the Northeastern State Women's Golf Classic.
In one team, senior Mallory Kempf was the top performer with an 82 and 81 in the two rounds. Leading the entire A&M-Commerce contingent was freshman Chantry McMahan, out of the second Lions team, who shot back-to-back scores of 80 and finished 13th overall.
