Ordinance changes again at council meeting
The Commerce City Council, once again, made a change to a parking ordinance in their monthly meeting last night.
On an evening when Mayor Quay Throgmorton was absent from proceedings, the council approved a minor change to section 22-377 that was altered last month to control the amount of cars being parked on Commerce streets. The use of and definition of family was taken out. However, this wording of the ordinance would have caused other problems had a change not been made.
"A single family - a husband, wife and a teenage son or daughter - the way it was written, they would have been required to have two or three parking spaces even in a single family home," Director of Community Development Steve Wilson said. "So, we went back and tweaked it. If the dwelling is only occupied by one family, they are only required to have one parking space the way it is now."
If a home is occupied by more than one family, the multiple parking spaces policy would take effect. This would include college students living in a single dwelling. Wilson also said flyers explaining the ordinance changes would be sent out as inspections are done.
The council also approved to make some additions to a sewer collection and treatment system rehabilitation project. Initially, the project was bid out for an initial $2 million. That money was loaned to Commerce by the Texas Water Board. The projects came in under cost, so after reviewing the work being done, it was decided additional work could be done to improve the system even more. Now, the project will be re-bid for a more efficient cost.
