Music majors prepare for final performances
As the semester begins to come to a close, seniors in the Music Department are preparing their swan songs in a series of final recitals.
The senior recitals are, for many, the final concert for music majors before graduating from the university.
"It's exciting, but nerve-wracking at the same time," Senior Kathryn Wilburn said. "You don't know what to expect, but it's exciting to be starting a new chapter in life."
For this final performance, the music is comprised of pieces that the musician has already performed, and has been selected by their instructor.
"One of [the pieces] I asked to play," Senior Colin Murphy said. "The other three, he was more like ‘you're going to play these.'"
This concert is a part of the individual's grade and helps other students receive a grade as well. For many music majors it is required to attend a set amount of recitals and convocations throughout each semester. The senior recitals are more opportunities for the underclassmen to get these credits. While many seniors are anxious to graduate, looking back, some of them have regrets of their experience as an undergraduate.
"I wish I had taken more advantage of my free time," Wilburn said. "I know in my free time I would be practicing or living in the music building, but I wish that I would have gone out on campus more and did more things. I know I've been here all four years, and there are still buildings that I never went inside of."
