Volleyball team wins last five of last seven games
Three Lions posted double-doubles Tuesday night, helping A&M-Commerce sweep the season series against Henderson State and notch their fifth win in seven matches with a four-set victory in Arkadelphia, Ark, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, and 25-21.
Ezon Onditi had a career-high 14 kills and 11 digs, fellow freshman Breanne Snyder added 13 kills and 11 digs, and sophomore Jordan Neal finished with 39 assists and 13 digs. Rachel Robertson posted a team-high 18 kills for her 10th-consecutive double-digit kills performance of the season.
The Lady Reddies (4-22) used a 5-0 run late in the first set to take a 1-0 match lead behind the strong play of Ty Lindberg, but the Lions (8-12) responded by erasing an early deficit in the second set and a 20-17 margin late in the set to even the match at 1-1.
A&M-Commerce used that momentum and jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set, which helped the Lions build a 20-13 advantage that put the match in their favor.
Henderson State took control early in the fourth set, leading 14-10 midway through. But the Lions used a 9-1 run to take a 15-9 lead and got key points down the stretch to close out the match.
Tuesday's match was the final non-conference contest of the year for the Lions, who will remain on the road this weekend to face Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday, and 17th-ranked Angelo State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
