Preview: Lions host Cameron, aiming to find win column
The Cameron Aggies will invade The Field House in Commerce on Saturday, as Texas A&M University-Commerce looks to put an end to their losing ways. The Lion women will tip off against Cameron at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. Both games can be heard live on KETR 88.9 FM, with live stats available at www.LionAthletics.com.
The Lion women (1-16, 0-11 LSC) will be looking to not only avenge a loss to Cameron earlier in the season, but to also snap a 13-game losing streak that dates back to Nov. 26.
Cameron (12-5, 8-4 LSC) won the first meeting between the two teams, using an 11-point halftime lead to hold off the Lions and win, 68-52. Danielle Dixon led the Lions with 15 points in that contest, but Julie Paunovic posted a double-double for the Aggies with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
The A&M-Commerce women lead the all-time series against Cameron, 19-16, but have lost the last four games against the Aggies.
The A&M-Commerce men (6-12, 1-9 LSC) are in a similar situation, having lost five straight games as well as their first meeting against Cameron (11-6, 7-4 LSC). The Lions have lost three straight to the Aggies, including an 81-58 road loss back on Dec. 3.
In that meeting, the Lions were unable to finish with a scorer in double figures, and leading scorer Desmond King scored just four points in nine minutes. Cameron's Vinicius Telo lead all scorers with 25 points.
The time is now for the Lions to turn things around. A&M-Commerce, despite their recent woes, are just one game behind Abilene Christian and Angelo State for the eighth and final qualifying spot in the LSC standings.
