Despite being the birthplace of soccer and having one of the most famous leagues in the world within its borders, the United Kingdom has managed to fall behind in the women's aspect of the sport. That is where the United States takes a lead role, and this knowledge helped convince freshman Jade Bell to hop across the pond and become an A&M-Commerce Lion. Full story

Important finale awaits Lions on Friday

  The athletic schedule for A&M-Commerce teams is dwindling down, but one team is battling for postseason positioning as the regular season comes to a close this weekend. Neil Piper's soccer squad will hot Texas Woman's on Friday for the Lions' home and regular season finale, and although their opponent is sitting in the conference cellar, A&M-Commerce won't be taking them lightly, needing a win to secure a spot in the LSC Championships. Lions rammed into 45-14 homecoming defeat

  In front of the largest home crowd of the season – including alumni, new Hall of Fame inductees, and members of the homecoming court – the A&M-Commerce Lions sputtered and stalled until well after halftime. By the time the Lions got on track, half of the spectators had left, and Angelo State had put five touchdowns on the board before eventually cruising to a 45-14 victory over the winless Lions at Memorial Stadium. Volleyball team wins last five of last seven games

  Three Lions posted double-doubles Tuesday night, helping A&M-Commerce sweep the season series against Henderson State and notch their fifth win in seven matches with a four-set victory in Arkadelphia, Ark, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, and 25-21. Ezon Onditi had a career-high 14 kills and 11 digs, fellow freshman Breanne Snyder added 13 kills and 11 digs, and sophomore Jordan Neal finished with 39 assists and 13 digs. Full story

Leasor takes title at Lions tourney

The Lions men's golf team hosted the annual Lion Invitational Oct. 31-Nov. 1, in The Colony, Texas and their A team posted 5th overall with a score of 584 (8 over). Though the Lions could not take the team victory, sophomore Chris Leasor managed to take home best individual score with 134 (10 under). A&M-Commerce's B team finished 11th out of 11 with a score of 632 (56 over). Full story

Sports Column: Attitude change is only thing that can lead to win

To be honest, I expected to see a different A&M-Commerce football team at Saturday's homecoming game. During the drive to the stadium I had put together this formula in my head that added up to a new attitude, something along the lines of: tired of losing + homecoming + motivational speech from former Dallas Cowboy = WIN. Mustangs trample Lions in Harvey Martin blowout

Momentum was the flavor of the day during the Harvey Martin Classic at Cowboys Stadium on Saturday. When the A&M-Commerce Lions had it, they could not do enough, but when Midwestern State took it away, the Mustangs kept it for good, reeling off 42 straight points on their way to a 63-17 rout in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams.

Super Bowl Champion, alumnus speaks to Lions

In preparation for the Harvey Martin Classic, this year Texas A&M University-Commerce hosted Super Bowl champion and A&M-Commerce alumnus Alan Veingrad in the Rayburn Student Center on Thursday Sept. 15. During his college career, Veingrad became a two-time first team All-Lone Star Conference offensive lineman for the Lions and was a first team Eastman Kodak Coaches' College Division All-American in 1984. ‘Football Family’ raises funds, spirit

The A&M-Commerce football team has a new addition to their support system this season with the founding of the Lions Football Family. The organization, made up of parents and fans of the football players, raises funds and organizes events to create a "Championship Atmosphere," according to their brochure. Full story
