Web site redesigned for future students, current students mixed in reaction

Everything gets older – it’s a matter of fact. And like anything getting older, change is inevitable. That’s the thought behind the redesign of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Web site.

On Jan. 16, A&M-Commerce launched their new look for the Web site designed to be the primary resource for prospective students looking to attend college.

Executive Director of Marketing Communications Randy Jolly, spearheaded the new image.

“Basically what we’re trying to do with the new Web site is give it a new look. We’re making a new clean, prospective student-oriented web page, and make it every bit as professional as any larger university’s would be,” he said.

Stamats Communications Inc. is spearheading the site’s revamp. Currently, the site features a new home page, with all subsequent pages looking the same as the previous site.

“We’ve had a lot of meetings with their people the last six months over what we need to be on the Web site,” Jolly said. “We stressed mainly that we want to use it as a marketing tool, and now we have that.”

But students have voiced contrasting opinions.

“I like the new site a lot. It seems a lot more professional and organized. It’s a lot more marketable as far as student prospects. It almost looks believable,” undergraduate, Zonya Robinson said.

Senior biology major Danesha Burch disagrees, “I hate the new page. It’s much harder to get to the places you want to compared to the last one. I guess it’s just because I was so used to the old one, but I’d prefer the old one.”

Moreover, freshman history major Christian Webb said, “For someone who hasn’t really been visiting the Web site too often, it can be kind of a pain. Something as simple as finding a date, you have to dink around to find it because you have to go an extra step to finding what you need to get.”

For those feeling the same as Burch and Webb, don’t worry. The new Web site is set to be fixed and fully operational by May.
