Intramural Sports to host "Championship Night" to end IM basketball season
On Wednesday, March 7, the Morris Recreation Center will be hosting Championship Night for intramural basketball, filling the evening with various activities for both players and fans.
With this year's intramural basketball season bringing out a sizable audience, Assistant Director of Intramural Sports Kari Osborne thought it would be nice to include elements of a real NBA championship night.
"We will be selecting spectators to participate in games such as Let's Make A Deal, 25 Second Shot, raffle giveaways throughout the night, and will be selecting one person to attempt a half-court shot to win a grand prize," Osborne said.
Throughout the week prior to the final night, the intramural staff has been hosting preliminary rounds for the 3-point shootout that will take place between the championship games. The top six finalists – three male and three female – will be invited to compete in the official 3-point shootout.
Along with the multiple games and contests, the intramural staff will also be presenting a number of awards to individuals and teams for their participation in this year's intramural basketball season. Osborne believes that this will be a great part of the night to show appreciation to those who stood out this season.
"Most importantly, we will be recognizing students that have a positive impact on the Intramural Program at Texas A&M University-Commerce," Osborne said. "We will recognize the best new official and best returning official, [as well as] the best female and male basketball participant. These individuals were voted on by the intramural staff, not only for their athletic ability in the game, but their character and constant display of outstanding sportsmanship throughout the league. We will also be honoring the team that has shown the best sportsmanship every time they have stepped on the court this season."
The night will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the co-ed finals, but audience members are encouraged to arrive early to ensure seating is available.
