Success Center serves student needs

The Student Access and Success Center was created in January 2009 with the concept of students having one location to take care of all their registration, financial aid and career development needs.

"The purpose of the Division of Student Access and Success is to provide students at A&M-Commerce with opportunities and experiences that will foster their access to and success in higher education," Associate Vice President for Student Access and Success Sharon Johnson said. "The unprecedented organizational structure of this division reflects a continuum of support services that are required for today's students to have the transformational experience desired from earning a college degree."

Located inside the newly renovated building are the Division of Student Access and Success administrative offices, admissions and testing center. In addition, there are several departments located within the building informally know as the One-Stop Shop. University College, success coaches, the registrar's office, Veteran and Military Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Hispanic Outreach and Student Programs, UIL and Career Development are now all housed in the location where the McBrayer Printing Facility stood no more than one year ago.

"The One Stop Shop provides a very professional environment for students," junior pre-veterinary major Melissa Watson said. "It is sometimes difficult to make an appointment because there are so many students trying to get an appointment but the people at the One Stop Shop are very welcoming. It is more convenient having everything in one location rather than different locations spread throughout campus."

All classifications of students are welcome at the Student Access and Success Center with or without an appointment. However, students are encouraged to make an appointment with the person whom they wish to meet so they will know when that person will be available.

"It is so convenient having everything I need for registration in one place," freshmen business administration major Taner Burnett said. "With this being my first year as an A&M-Commerce student, it is more convenient having everything I need for registration under one roof rather than different departments spread all over campus."

The One Stop Shop has provided various student services and resources students may need in completing their university degree. All these resources are located under one roof making access straightforward and uncomplicated.

"It is a goal to provide dedicated, friendly, knowledgeable and caring employees working together to make certain students have access to a successful educational experience," Johnson said.
