Former printing center director Burnett dies
Former faculty member and director of the printing center Lyndal Burnett died Nov. 13.
Burnett, born Feb. 28, 1942 had a long standing relationship with Texas A&M University-Commerce. He was hired in 1968 as a linotype operator and composer for the East Texas State University print shop. He became the director of the print shop in 1987 and held the position while also teaching until his retirement in 2001. He continued his work with the university on a part-time basis through May of 2009.
Administrative assistant to the president of the university Linda King said Burnett was more than a colleague.
"I will miss his quick smile and kind nature," she said.
Director of the Paris Junior College Print shop Tim Shelton said Burnett was solid in his ethics and way of handling every situation.
"Of the over 40 years I knew Lyndal, he qualified as a true character and most of all a true friend," he said.
Some of Burnett's students said his reach was beyond the class room. Printing graduate and alumni board member Mike Callahan said he worked for Burnett at the print shop and appreciated his dedication.
"His support and knowledge were a tremendous help as I began my career," he said.
