Writer takes joy in his music
As most people who know me are aware, I love music. I can almost always be found jamming out to something on my iPhone. When I'm having a bad day, a song that I enjoy can usually lift my spirits pretty effectively. I listen to music when I do a lot of stuff, including, but not limited to: walking to class, attending class, eating, "purging" after a big meal, editing articles, pooping, studying and clubbing baby seals (mum's the word on that last one). My love of music is so great that it was one of the main reasons that I thought about pursuing a music education degree when I first arrived at A&M-Commerce.
Another thing that most people know about me is that I am a very friendly and outgoing individual. I will generally talk to just about anyone about just about anything IF we're just hanging out or something. Having said that, I would also like say how eternally awkward I feel when I run into somebody in passing and they try to start a conversation about something that can wait until the next time we hang out. Stop asking me questions like you're trying to host a talk show on the streets of Commerce. I do not like it! Do not want.
Okay, now that I have established that I deeply love music and how I prefer to conduct my social interactions, let me say this: if I'm walking somewhere and I have my headphones on, do not try to talk to me. I do not want to talk to you at that moment – unless I'm on fire or something large is about to fall and kill me. It's not that I just don't like you or anything like that. It's just that I'm probably really enjoying my music.
If you take nothing else away from this column, dear reader, know this: if I'm listening to music and you pass me on the street, don't be offended when all you get from me is the "What's up?" nod*.
*This statement does not apply to most of my professors and "scorned lovers." I genuinely do not want to talk to you.
