Fright Fest turns Six Flags spooky
This year's Fright Fest festival at Six Flags Over Texas is packed with entertainment for various age groups.
Aside from the rides and attractions all around the park, during the month of October the park sets up in a Halloween theme. There are scary shows, street entertainment and haunted houses.
This season there are four main haunted houses and ten shows and attractions available at the park to choose from.
In the children's area, there is a special trick-or-treat spot. The Looney Tunes Spooky Town is geared towards kids and is a much more subdued version of Fright Fest for a younger audience.
"When I was a kid, it was the coolest thing to go to Fright Fest," Brigette Speiker, a sophomore at Texas A&M University-Commerce said. "I remember I got so scared when I was standing in line and (one of the actors) snuck up behind me, and I turned around and screamed."
Adults have a range of attractions to experience. For $15, visitors can purchase a Fright Pass and enjoy unlimited trips to all the haunted attractions.
Bloody Mary's Circus of Fear and General Beauregard's Haunted Manor, are two such examples of haunted houses that play on common phobias and fears. Clowns and ghosts are only the beginning of the long list of creepy things to experience at Six Flags Over Texas this year.
Witches, dead pirates and zombies come to life in the park to help create an atmosphere of terror.
"I went to Fright Fest this weekend and went through all of the haunted houses," Nina Derrick, a junior at A&M-Commerce said. "I just love Halloween and getting to see all of the actors dressed up in costume is really cool. I think Studio 13 was the best one."
Another thrilling part of Fright Fest is the fact it gets dark much earlier during this time of year and the roller coasters and other rides are a different experience when it is dark outside.
"I have never been to Fright Fest before, but I have been to Six Flags," Ricky Daughtery, a freshman at A&M-Commerce said. "I think I'd like to take a date out there just to experience the atmosphere and ride the rides at night."
On Oct. 24, Six Flags Over Texas will host "Thrill the World". This is an event that will attempt to break the world record for the most people simultaneously dancing the "Thriller" dance. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. at The Silver Star Carousel Stage.
Six Flags has been creating lasting memories for the metroplex for almost 50 years. Fright Fest ends Nov. 1, so there is still time to go and experience the thrills and chills before the attractions close.
