Pan-Hellenic recruitment allows students to find new home
Finding a home away from home is possible for college students. Next week is Pan-Hellenic recruitment for ladies interested in joining a sorority.
Orientation is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in Innovation A and B on the second floor of the Sam Rayburn Student Center.
On Tuesday, applicants will be able to meet all eight Pi Chi's. Throughout the week, the Pi Chi's will guide the ladies through the four sorority homes and introduce them to the current members.
"This is a time for potential new members to be pampered," Greek Life Coordinator Amber VanLue Johnston said. "It gives women going through orientation the opportunity to visit each house."
Johnston said this time of year is a very touching time and will be life changing for many ladies.
"There is a feeling you get when you walk into the house," she said. "It's an incredible moment."
She said when the ladies find their home, it is "life changing and highly emotional."
Once the girls meet at orientation, they realize they are all there for the same reason – to find a home away from home.
"It is nerve racking, exciting and there are women there just like you," Johnston said.
Johnston had plenty of advice for the applicants.
"Keep an open mind and let yourself feel what you are," Johnston said. "Ask every question you can think of and have fun with it. Let yourself be pampered and be nervous." "You have to trust the system. Be ready for a life changing experience."
Applications are going to be accepted until 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7. Final placement selections will be announced Saturday, Sept. 11.
For Kappa Chi Delta, recruitment begins Monday, Sept. 13. The Inter Fraternity Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council are still coordinating dates.
