Club celebrates second anniversary

The second anniversary of the Club at the Sam Rayburn Student Center on Jan. 24 welcomed students to join its first of many Buzz Trivia nights. The Club will host Buzz Trivia nights on Mondays throughout the semester.

Similar to last year when it hosted Monday Night Football games, the Club will have trivia games such as those utilized by sports bars or restaurants.

"On Mondays, we'll have Buzz Trivia, where students can play a game every 15 minutes," Club Coordinator Wayne Grabow said. "The Buzz Trivia is something similar you would see at a place like Buffalo Wild Wings. There are all sorts of questions ranging from movie quotes to sports. Each winner will receive two raffle tickets. One will be for a nightly prize such as a cup for unlimited soda that night or a tee shirt. If you win the monthly drawing, you can win $100 to put on your Lions student card. You can play as many times as you want and could win more than just once."

The first 100 students who attended the Buzz Trivia night received a free A&M-Commerce two gigabyte flash drive.

"It was the busiest around 4 p.m. today when we kicked it off with a bang," Assistant Club Coordinator Johnny Brister said. "We had the trivia equipment last year, but never really got around to using it, so I thought that setting up some kind of tournament with prizes would be something that would interest students on campus and be really fun."

People who missed out on the games last Monday will have a chance to play trivia and take part in other events the Club is hosting this week and throughout the semester.

"Last semester, we hosted Monday Night Football games, while this semester we will show more basketball games and Buzz Trivia," Club staffer Jeff Giles said. "We're hoping by hosting such events, we'll attract more students to becoming involved with us. We have video game consoles here where students are mostly playing 'Call of Duty: Black Ops' and 'Super Street Fighter IV.' The Club has plenty to offer and is a good place to meet new people."

The Club is hosting other events on different days. They will host movie nights on Tuesdays, which they kicked off this week with the new comedy drama "Life as We Know It" and the following week will feature the new action film "The Expendables" on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.

For video game fans, the Club is hosting a video game tournament for the new fighting game "Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds" on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Students will be able to sign up for the tournament in the next few weeks leading up to the game's release.

As part of the Jump Start 2011 events on campus, the Club will also feature its first "Club Night" of the semester with live musical act Des Point, and will have alcohol for sale on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. For experienced pool players, the Club will host a pool tournament on Friday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
